September's Featured K9 Team is Cpl. Jason Porter and K9 Hatchi. Missy and Chris Banke, of Pinebrook Kennels, donated K9 Hatchi to the Milton Police Department, and they are the first K9 team for their department. The pair went through Patrol School in 2013 and Drug School in 2014. His lineage is Slovakian and he comes from a long line of police and military dogs. On his down time, K9 Hatchi enjoys playing catch and spending time with his handler. K9 Hatchi has also gained a reputation for being one of the hardest biting dogs in the program. Below are some examples of how K9 Hatchi and Cpl. Porter were able to use their training.
During 2015 K9 Hatchi helped locate a safe that was stolen during a burglary of a residence. The find helped lead to the suspects confessing about the crime. In the winter of 2016 the team assisted Essex Police at the conclusion of a pursuit. The suspects were thought to be armed with weapons and upon seeing and hearing K9 Hatchi, they surrendered without incident. In the winter of 2017 K9 Hatchi helped track and locate a male that had fled a motor vehicle stop in St. Albans. The suspect was located by K9 Hatchi under a mattress in a garage. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
